With the opening of the ICE-train station Wilhelmsh�he beginning of the nineties the main station lost its importance as long distance commuter station. Kasseler Kulturbetriebe (culture work), the municipal�Culture office and the Deutsche Bahn formed an initiative to arrange the� 'KulturBahnhofs', to utilise the by the railway since 1995 not anymore needed�facilities for mostly cultural usage.
